Finding the Ultimate Treetop Adventure Course Near Me

August 25, 2019

Are you ready for an adventure?

Then look to the trees! Get a bird’s eye view of the world around you as you challenge your strength and willpower.

Only a treetop adventure course can take you to your limits. Read on for a guide to the ultimate adventure experience!

What to Expect at an Adventure Park

An aerial adventure park offers fun for the whole family! When you arrive, expect the great outdoors to greet you!

Before entering any courses, see the staff to get all set up! No need to feel afraid, even if it’s your first time!

Trained staff will help you gear up with harnesses and smart belays that will keep you safe throughout your experience. They will also teach you the ropes before showing you where your adventure begins.

Look up and you will notice an assortment of ropes, obstacles, and zip lines, hanging at different levels. Don’t panic!

They look much more confusing from the ground. Each contains a clearly marked level, and you cannot accidentally switch levels during your adventure.

Course Levels Explained

When purchasing tickets, you may notice separated age groups. This keeps each guest in an appropriate challenge for their age and skill set. Kids need supervision throughout the course.

Adults go it alone or with their adventure party. You will see colors for each course level.

Each color signifies a level of difficulty, beginning with yellow and ending with black. You may not skip a level, because completion shows that you can safely move forward to the next challenge.

Yellow offers the opportunity for beginner exploration and fun. On this lowest level, you may overcome that nagging fear of heights, practice your footing, and test your belays.

Moving to green means accepting a little challenge. On the intermediate course, you move a little higher and traverse a long obstacle course.

Entering the blue course puts you at an advanced stage, towering the forest floor from 22-26 feet above. Expect a workout as the course tests your balance and strength.

Taking on the expert black course means you are ready for a real adrenaline rush. Expect to push your body and mind to new levels and feel on top of the world when you finish.

Is the Treetop Course Safe?

Yes! Remember that you are safe! The courses go through constant safety checks and maintenance.

New York State keeps strict safety regulations for literally everything. Rest assured that they would not allow families flying over the forest if they could fall.

The ropes hold much more than you weigh, and if you did fall, somebody would come to your rescue right away. Until then, you would hang out, safely above the treetops, and maybe even feel a sense of flight.

Trust your smart belays. You cannot unhook one until you snap another closed. This keeps you constantly attached to the course.

Tips for Success

Success starts with listening to your guide. Make sure that you hear all of the rules and guidelines. Ask questions if you forget.

Face your fears upfront. If you feel afraid of heights, use the yellow ropes course to push your limits!

If your fear leaves you feeling stuck, close your eyes and do a quick breathing meditation. Slowing your breath deactivates your sympathetic nervous system, responsible for a fight or flight response.

It turns on your sympathetic nervous system, which will help you relax. Remind yourself of all the safety mechanisms if it helps!

Think through the course with your brain. Though it will challenge you physically, it also poses some puzzles.

If one way across does not work, try another. A simple change in footing or hand positioning can change everything.

Encourage one another. When going across with friends or family, offer words of encouragement, and listen to yourself as you speak to others! Mindset matters more than physical strength on most of the obstacles.

Rest on the platforms when necessary. The blue and black courses get very physically demanding.

Sometimes you just need a moment to regain your strength. Let others go ahead of you as you wait on the platform.

Plan Ahead for the Treetop Adventure Course

Plan your adventure ahead of time! Making reservations will ensure you a spot on the course, as only a limited number of people may go during specific time slots.

Watch the weather. If possible, try to avoid stormy days. If you do get caught in a storm, simply exit the course and wait for it to pass to finish up your time at the park.

Dress appropriately for the temperature. Layers, like jackets and sweatshirts, allow you to change with the temps.

Overall, wear form-fitted athletic clothing. Loose garments can get stuck and make the course challenging in a way that feels more annoying than fun.

Eat a light meal ahead of time. Skipping meals may result in you feeling weak and light-headed.

Pack yourself an easy-to-eat lunch and healthy snacks, like granola bars, fruit, and nuts. If you forget, you can purchase some snacks at the park.

Stay hydrated! Bring a backpack with water bottles. Take sips often so that you do not get dehydrated during this physical exercise.

Remember, you will be outside climbing in the trees. Protect yourself by wearing sunscreen and bug spray.

Tips for Parents

Bringing a little one across poses unique challenges that solo adventurers do not face. You need to help another human through something that you cannot 100% help them through.

Understand that your child will remain safe when you bring them on an age-appropriate course. Give them a little space to explore and try things out on their own.

Encourage children to try things out and think them through before you help them. If you feel frustrated, take a breath and remember that their body and mind are both working hard through this.

Talk them through calmly. If a little ends up in a fear freeze mid-course, no worries. Just ask the staff for help.
