It may seem obvious to say, but not all New York adventure parks are created equal. The goal of any adventure park is to provide fun and entertainment for the entire family at an affordable price.
While you’re bound to have a great time at any adventure park you choose (we hope you’ll give us a visit!), we’ll show you some things you need to look for when making the choice between parks.
After all, you want to have the experience of the lifetime in the great outdoors.
The 3 Things You Should Look for in an NY Adventure Park
This could be an endless list of things to look for, which is why we broke it down into 3 main categories. We’ll focus on what the park has to offer, the safety of the park and the park’s reputation.
What Does the NY adventure park have to offer?
Since you likely haven’t been to the park before, take a look at the park’s website. They should have pictures, videos, and descriptions of many of the things you’ll come across during your visit.
This could include food options, a store (with keepsakes, shirts or even the essentials you need during your trip), the courses and where everything is.
Each park is going to be different, but if you really want to adventure through the trees you’ll be looking for an adventure park like Boundless Adventures. If you’re looking to zipline for most of your trip, make sure you find a park that suits what you’re looking for.
While we want you to adventure at our park here in NY, we want you to love the great outdoors even more.
The Safety of the Park
Every adventure park, aerial park, amusement park and similar parks should always be focused on your safety.
Rides, zipline and outdoor adventure parks should be inspected regularly for safety by the park staff and by the state to ensure you have nothing to worry about.
While the experts will make sure everything is safe, you can always ask the park or their employees about the safety options they have at the park.
For example, at Boundless Adventures in NY we use the following safety measures for every guest:
We use the most advanced safety equipment available to minimize risk. Participants wear a full-body harness and are locked on to a safety line through an always “on belay” system.
Two carabineers are connected together and do not allow users to fully disconnect from the safety line. Participants are unable to come “off belay” until they are firmly on the ground.
This system provides the climber with the security of knowing that he or she is always attached to a safety line, while allowing them to independently navigate the course.
Remember, if you don’t feel safe at any point (in any park) say something.
The Adventure Park’s Reputation
A parks reputation will tell you everything you need to know about they do business.
You want to see positive reviews, comments on social media and people posting about their trip.
Regardless of which NY adventure park you visit, you’re going to interact with several different staff members, countless different courses and hopefully make memories that last a lifetime.
Look for reviews on Facebook, Google and anywhere else you can find them (We promise you’ll see some great reviews about Boundless Adventures once we open!).
Don’t let a few bad reviews turn you off from a park, but use all of the reviews to help guide your decision when deciding between different parks.
The Best Adventure Park in NY
The best New York adventure parks are the ones who have gone the extra mile when it comes to quality, reliability and customer service. Watch for reviews or talk to your friends and family about their experiences.
When Boundless Adventures opens in Purchase, New York in 2018 we hope to start building the reputation as one of the best parks in the area.
We encourage you to look into every adventure park in the area (including us) to see what looks like it will be the best fit for your weekend adventure.

Instead of wasting hours in lines at a traditional amusement park, ask yourself and your family if you’re up for an experience like no other by spending an exciting day outdoors at the best adventure park in New York.
Exploring the Adventure Park vs Amusement Park Debate
Adventure parks are an experience unlike any other. They offer families, outdoor and recreational enthusiasts and those eager for a different experience the fun of enjoying an ultimate playground in the trees. It’s all about active participation with and in nature.
As recently as a decade ago, there were no adventure parks in the United States. Outdoor challenge courses were typically limited to team-building sites for youth groups and corporations. That all changed in the early 2000s when the first pay to play adventure park opened to the public.
Here’s where it gets even better – more of these outdoor adventure parks are on the way to beautiful New York state. If you’re new to this form of recreational fun, the following four exciting elements of our adventure parks will make your trip!
The Great Outdoors vs Miles of Asphalt
When looking at adventure parks vs amusement parks, we’d be doing you a disservice if we looked past the immediate scenery difference. Instead of spending the day on acres of hot concrete (or asphalt), imagine several hours spent touring the treetops while admiring New York’s lush vegetation for as far as the eye can see.
Think of the wonderful views while experiencing the thrill of flying over the tops of trees at top speed or while testing yourself during the challenge of completing a rope or obstacle course while in the trees!
We know that sometimes you just need the thrill of a roller coaster, but we promise you’ll get that same jolt of excitement as you adventure through nature.
The bottom line is that the scenery is very different when comparing adventure parks vs amusement parks.
How Many People Are There?
Amusement parks and adventure parks were created to connect people with some of the greatest thrills that the world has to offer.
One of the perks of adventure parks when comparing them to amusement parks is that they are usually less crowded and more personal than an amusement park.
At Boundless Adventures we book our guests in blocks of time so that everyone can enjoy the adventure to the fullest. At amusement parks you can spend hours on line between all of the different rides.
While we know that amusement parks do regular inspections to keep the rides safe for the thousands of people that visit daily, we use some of the most advanced safety equipment available for you.
Here we make safety a personal goal to ensure that your only excitement comes from the next part of the course. It’s why we make guests of all ages wear a full-body harness and are secured to a safety line through dual carabiner belay system. This prevents you from becoming disconnected from the safety line until they return safely to ground level. This system allows you to fully and safely enjoy the adventure courses knowing you’re completely secure.
Our trained guide will instruct you on every aspect of the safety equipment before you hit the courses.
Your Ride and Course Options
While we know that most adventure parks won’t have more courses than amusement parks have rides, we’re confident that you’ll have a better time here.
That’s because true thrill seekers and those looking for adventure know that when it comes to adventure parks vs amusement parks, adventure parks have the edge.
It’s not about the number of courses but the challenges they offer, the excitement of taking the leap and feeling free in nature.
Our adventure park offers a total of nine different courses, with four types designed for beginners to experts. All of our courses feature elements which can include rope walks, moving planks, tunnels, zip lines, cargo nets, and more.
Here’s a quick look at our customized courses:
Exploration Courses: At 10 feet above ground, these courses are perfect for younger children (ages 7 and up) or anyone new to adventure parks.
Motivation Courses: These courses are slightly more challenging and higher off the ground at 15 feet. They include longer zip lines, elements that literally roll you from one tree to the next, and ladders.
Strength Courses: At about 22 feet off the ground, these courses offer more challenging obstacles, including rope bridges and harder rolling elements and ladders.
Conquer Courses: Considered our expert courses, these are set at up to 40 feet above ground level. These courses require more agility, strength, and balance. If you have no fear of heights and are ready for an adrenaline rush, these are the courses for you.
Finding Something for Everyone
While you’re free to try (and master) as many courses as you like during your unique, three-hour adventure in the trees, our parks also include inviting walking paths and comfortable benches to enjoy.
Climbers, friends and family members who prefer not to climb will enjoy taking in the local scenery and the activities above from ground level. There is no charge for parking or admission if you plan to watch as your friends or family members enjoy their time in the trees.
The Winner of the Adventure Parks vs Amusement Parks Battle
Ultimately, they’re both great options depending on what you’re looking to do for your next adventure. We’re obviously biased in saying that we recommend adventure parks, but that’s because we love being in the trees.
Getting to experience the park while in the trees will be an experience you won’t soon forget.

All of our courses feature elements which can include rope walks, moving planks, tunnels, zip lines, cargo nets, and more.

The Zip Lines
There’s a reason why ziplining is one of the most popular activities on earth! There’s nothing like soaring high above the ground as if you were flying through the trees. Riding a zip line between courses provides you with views of the forest canopy and the area that can’t be imagined from the ground. The specialized equipment attaching you to the line allows you to soar, but it’s also designed to safely slow you down as you approach each landing zone. And remember – you’ll be strapped into a professional-grade climbing harness with backup systems.
Enjoying the Park
While you’re free to try (and master) as many courses as you like during your unique, three-hour adventure in the trees, our parks also include inviting walking paths and comfortable benches to enjoy. Climbers and friends and family members who prefer not to climb will enjoy taking in the local scenery and the activities above from ground level. There is no charge for parking or admission if you plan to watch as your friends or family members enjoy their time in the trees.
There are several reasons why adventure parks are growing in popularity. They not only provide guests with the beauty of a forest, they offer exciting and challenging outdoor activities surrounded by the natural landscape of cliffs, hills, creeks, and rivers. And getting to experience this in while “at height” in the trees at an adventure park in New York will be a bonus few guests will ever forget.
We love talking about ziplining with anyone who will listen. Why? Because we think there’s no better place than in the trees.
Over the past several years we’ve had the opportunity to run some of the best zipline parks in NY, MA and WI. Having spent thousands of hours up in the trees, we’ve tried way too many clothing combinations as we zip from tree-to-tree.
Since we know you’re looking for the perfect ziplining outfit, we set out to make this a one-stop guide. After talking with our staff, guests and owners (they’re Adventure Park experts), we compiled a bunch of tips to give you the best shot at finding the perfect zipline outfit.
Ultimately, choosing the right clothes to wear on a zipline adventure comes down to this: comfort. We’ll always ensure you’re safe when you come to a Boundless Adventures Park (in NY, MA or WI), but our tips are perfect for parks everywhere.
Please keep in mind the time of year that you’re going ziplining! If it’s projected to be cool outside, we’d skip on our shorts recommendation and wear an extra layer or two!
Best Clothing for Ziplining
We took a long hard look at our previous zipline clothing guide and found that while it was really good, we wanted it to be great. That’s why we’re back with our revised zipline adventure clothing guide and we’ve broken it down by category.
At the end of the day, always think about what’s most comfortable for you. After that, consider the arguments we present below. Ultimately, you’re the one who gets to wear your outfit in the trees, so make your zipline adventure worth it!
In your zipline adventure clothing plan you should consider:
Bottoms (Pants, Shorts or Capris)
Tops (T-Shirts, Long Sleeves, Jackets, Sweatshirts)
Let’s dive into the ultimate zipline clothing guide.
Pants vs Shorts: Your Zipline Clothing Guide
The decision between pants and shorts for your next zipline adventure isn’t as simple as you think. When you’re first deciding what to wear ziplining, pants will likely be the first thing that you’ll think about. It’s also one of the most important decisions you’ll make, because choosing the right ones can be the difference between a fun trip and a very uncomfortable one.
It’s important to keep in mind that the harness you’ll wear (required for your safety) goes underneath your legs and around your waist. That means that if your shorts are a bit too short, they may ride up and become uncomfortable as you zip through the trees.
If shorts are a must-have, look for ones that are about knee-length. We promise you can still look stylish with these and have an absolute blast.
While we’ll stay away from recommending a particular brand or type of shorts/pants, we personally look for ones that have:
Moisture wicking material
Close-fitting fabric
Designed for working out or hiking
Ultimately, your pants/shorts/capris will depend on your personal preference. Just be comfortable and go have fun on your zipline adventure.
T-Shirts, Long Sleeves, Jackets & Sweatshirts
Timing is truly everything.
Think about the time of year, the time of your zipline adventure and how long you plan to be ziplining.
Personally, we love wearing t-shirts when we’re up in the trees. There’s nothing like the wind on your skin as you look out into the wilderness. However, we know that being ziplining pros may have made us a bit more tolerable to colder weather.
You need to keep in mind that morning ziplining sessions may be cooler than later in the day. It also may be best to consider if it’s raining, overcast or sunny and 75.
While you’ll get some cover from the trees, you can still get sunburned, so if you typically burn please bring some sunscreen or consider long sleeves.
While you won’t have to do any heavy hiking, climbing, or other strenuous activity to enjoy the zip line, you’ll be more comfortable in clothing that you would wear to workout or go hiking. This will give you a greater range of motion, and help to prevent chaffing or heavy sweating in the heat.
Sneakers, Boots, Flip Flops and More: Zipline Footwear
Footwear is often a part of the outfit that is overlooked when people consider their zipline adventure.
We’ve spoken with countless guests who felt that since they weren’t hiking that flip flops would be a good choice. While we love the feel of the wind, we’ll never give the okay on that kind of footwear.
Unfortunately, we ONLY allow closed-toe shoes on our zipline adventures in NY, MA & WI. It’s our rule to keep you and your feet safe. You’ll land on platforms, climb across bridges and we can’t take a chance that you injure your feet.
It’s possible that other parks don’t require closed-toe shoes so we recommend checking with their specific rules.
In general we think it’s the best move for you and your feet. Beyond that, we don’t mind if they’re sneakers, boots or some other cool shoe we don’t know of yet.
Weather
We know it feels silly to have weather listed as a category, but it truly does matter.
Check the forecast the day before your trip and consider your zipline clothing options. The last thing you want to do is have your legs freezing while you fly through the trees with a light mist.
Zipline Accessories
We know that no great outfit is complete until you add the accessories.
Think about hats, sunglasses and face coverings. Depending on the weather you may want to cover yourself up from the sun, or you may prefer some extra sunscreen for your trip.
As far as other accessories, consider a Go-Pro or other recording device. Obviously using your cellphone can be risky, but we’ve seen some pretty cool phone chest mounts over the past few years. We know that our visitors love looking back at their zipline clips and sometimes even putting them on YouTube or TikTok for friends and family. Sidenote: If you decide to post, please tag us! We LOVE seeing videos of our guests having fun. We’ll do our best to reshare them if you’re okay with it!
In one of our earlier articles we talk about capturing the perfect selfie while ziplining. This is the perfect way to get the experience, without risking holding your cell phone out in the air!
The Ultimate Zipline Outfit
The truth is…there is no ultimate outfit. That’s actually the best part.
Our Zipline director loves wearing long sleeves no matter the time of year, while our head guest services swears by cut-off shirts. Sometimes, the best choices are the ones you’re most comfortable in.
Ultimately, we’ll always look out for your safety. Which is why we say open-toed shoes aren’t allowed and why we provide harnesses for every visitor.
Our promise to you is this: if we don’t need to require it to keep you safe, we’ll let you make the choice.
We hope this ultimate zipline clothing guide has given you some foolproof options, but if you’re still unsure…just drop a comment below or call us at 9148934550. We’ll make sure one of our Zipline staff gives you some great ideas.
We can’t wait to see what you pick for your next zipline adventure. And we absolutely LOVE seeing some of the crazy outfits you guys come up with for our events and Halloween fun.
As some of you might not be local to our NY, MA or WI parks, we want you to know that our trees are always open to you if you end up in the area. Either way, we hope you have a BLAST on your next zipline adventure.
